Bluman Associates were brought on board by Dave´s Creative Director Bronski at Tawbox to bring an ambitious and innovative vision to life.

The groundbreaking visual concept from Tawbox was to project real-time 2D and 3D images inspired by Dave´s politically-charged and passionate lyrics onto a double-ended piano, captured through one Steadicam lens.
To achieve this Bluman Associates needed to put 3 recent technological advances into play, and to push them to the max. Media servers (Disguise), real-time rendering (Notch) and 3D tracking devices (M0-Sys). Stout Studio headed by Lewis Kyle White provided the 3D content using Notch software, within Disguise media servers.
Another vital ingredient was to have one devoted Steadicam operator throughout the whole process as the Steadicams’ movement was highly choreographed to synchronise with the artist and the projected content.
The production required an infrared Mo-Sys StarTracker facing down with black retro-reflective stickers placed on the stage floor – which luckily blended in well on the studio floor. StarTracker generated off-set coordinates and tracked the position of the camera at all times, enabling the projection to be locked onto the piano for a seamless, immersive viewing experience.
The virtual and physical worlds collided well, thanks especially to a new calibration technique from Disguise. “When Dave throws his phone down onto the piano at the end of the piece that interruption of the beam and the separation of the virtual world and the real world was incredibly powerful,” says Pod Bluman.
Dave´s performance was watched by millions and is understandably now a National Treasure on YouTube. That´s a w/rap, folks.
